CCYP’s MENTOR MONDAY PROGRAM
Next topic: Entrepreneur Thinking: Start and Run a Business or Think Like an Owner
BARNSTABLE, MA – February 16, 2015 – CCYP has announced the Mentor Monday series as part of the Career Connect Mentor Exchange. Cape & Islands Workforce Investment Board is the Presenting Sponsor for the Mentor Mondays. The topic of this month’s career development event is “Entrepreneur Thinking: Start and Run a Business or Think Like an Owner. Learn more about what your boss means whey they ask you to “think like an owner” and gain insight into the process of running your own business.” The speaker is Peter Karlson who is a serial entrepreneur and business owner. Peter will provide his perspective on how to think like an owner and give best practices for starting and running a great company.
This month’s Mentor Monday is scheduled for February 23, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at Alberto’s Restaurant in Hyannis, and Cape Cod Community College is the Evening Sponsor for this event.
The goal of the CCYP Career Connect Mentor Exchange is to expand career development for the young professional demographic on Cape Cod in order to retain this important segment of our population that is the source of future growth and opportunity.Mentor Exchange addresses concerns of young professionals seeking the advice and guidance from experienced leaders in the Cape Cod business community.
“Mentor Monday is an exciting new program that is, in essence, speed mentoring,” said Anne Van Vleck, executive director, CCYP. “There’s a different topic every month and each event features dinner and a presentation, followed by small group discussions led by mentors. Mentor Monday is a pillar of the Mentor Exchange to help young professionals start or advance their careers or businesses.”
Through mentoring, young professionals receive help to clarify goals, add skills, build networks, find resources, and add value to organizations and the community.
The schedule and topics for upcoming Mentor Mondays include:
March 16, 2015 -- The brand of you: Promoting yourself effectively
April 13, 2015 -- Managing others: what’s your best leadership style?
May 18, 2015 -- Effective network building; Connecting comfortably online and in person
Mentor Mondays are open to the public with a small fee of $10 for dinner. Online registration is required (there is no charge for those enrolled in the Mentor Exchange as a Mentor or Mentee). CCYP’s Mentor Exchange has been created through the generous support of The Innovation Institute of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, and in partnership with the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and Listening 2 Leaders.
