Cape Cod Young Professionals to Host ‘Town Meeting 101’ Workshop

Cape Cod Young Professionals (CCYP), the premier organization for young and emerging professionals on Cape Cod, is tackling an issue that affects communities across Cape Cod: low turnout of young residents at town meetings. In an effort to increase civic engagement among young professionals ages 25-44, CCYP will host a “Town Meeting 101” training on November 16th from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Cape Cod Community Media Center (17 Shad Hole Rd., Dennisport, MA).

The workshop will provide an overview of the town meeting process, and provide real examples of agenda items and legislation that affect young professionals. Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet legislators and other young professionals who are interested in local government. The event is free, and open to the public. Residents of all ages are welcome to attend.

Town Meeting 101 is part of a series of events under the “#EngageCapeCod” campaign from CCYP. The campaign aims to increase young professional engagement in the local policy making process, and give young residents practical tools to help them stay informed on relevant issues, attend town meetings, and run for local office.

“Many people pay close attention to national politics, but local government is where decisions are made that affect our everyday lives,” said Lauren Barker, Chief Executive Officer of CCYP. “By demystifying town meetings and local governance, we are providing the Cape’s young professionals with the information they need to get involved and have their voices heard.”
