9.17.23 Second Summer Cycle Cancellation

Organizers of the inaugural Second Summer Cycle Charity Bike Ride announced on Thursday that the ride, scheduled for this Sunday, September 17th, was cancelled due to the impending storm.

The cancellation was prompted by a decision from town officials along the route to discourage such events from happening this weekend, in order to ensure resources could be dedicated to emergency calls related to the storm.

Many thanks to the ride organizers and all the staff, riders & volunteers from 18 nonprofits who joined forces these past months to plan, train, and prepare for the inaugural ride!

Thank you to the Cape Cod Chamber for spearheading the ride, to Second Summer Cycle Ride Director Pat Lentell, and to Organizing Committee Leads Andi Genser and David Troutman for your leadership in developing an outstanding charity bike ride for the region. It was a pleasure to team up with you and representatives from the 17 other nonprofit beneficiaries in planning the ride!

I'd like to give a big shout out to the members of our CCYP Second Summer Cycle Team who had planned to ride one of the three routes tomorrow ranging from 30+ miles to 100+ miles and who raised funds in support of CCYP's mission. Thank you Patrick, Bill, Maddie, Shauna, Megan, Thomas, and Jesse for stepping up to ride for Team CCYP!

It's not too late to support Team CCYP and to help us reach our fundraising goal! Funds raised through Second Summer Cycle will be directed to the expansion of our scholarship, mentoring, professional development, and civic & community engagement programs.

Thanks also to our generous CCYP Second Summer Cycle Team bike jersey sponsors for your support: The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, Seamen's Bank, Shepley Wood Products, Mid-Cape Home Centers, CapeSpace, Chatham Works, OpenCape, Wheelhouse Bike Co., Nove Yoga, and Boardwalk Business Group. Special thanks to Wheelhouse Bike Co. for generously offering to provide free bike repair services to riders at the Hydration & Nutrition Station CCYP was scheduled to coordinate at White Crest Beach in Wellfleet.

CCYP was honored to have been selected as one of the 18 beneficiaries of the inaugural Second Summer Cycle. Show your support for all the time, energy, and commitment our riders put into training for the ride - and contribute to impactful CCYP programs - by making a donation to our team overall. A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated!

For those of you who had expressed interest in joining our CCYP SSC Team but who were unable to participate due to scheduling challenges this year, we hope you'll join our team for the 2024 Second Summer Cycle Cape Cod Charity Ride!
